Apparently lawmakers in Tennessee have nothing better to do with their time then to try and pass a law that will restrict a DUI lawyers ability to advertise his or her services to the people that are in need of those services.

Everyone knows that you have to advertise your business to the general public otherwise they will never know that your business exists. It doesn’t matter whether you run a beauty salon, daycare or you are a DUI lawyer, if you don’t advertise your business, it will cease to exist.

Just because a lawyer specializes in DUI cases doesn’t mean that they are telling the general public that it’s ok to drink and drive.

The lawmakers are also trying to attach legislation to the DUI Advertising bill that would create a repeat DUI offender list that anyone could access via the Internet just like a person does to find out about sex offenders living in their neighborhood or town.

Don’t think for a minute that you’re safe just because you don’t live in Tennessee. Once a bill like this passes in one state, it’s just a matter of time before it reaches the state where you live.

It is appalling that our government has gotten to the point where they are going to start dictating how a person can advertise their business. What a complete waste of taxpayer dollars! There are much more important issues that need to be addressed other than how a DUI lawyer advertises their professional services.
