A Pennsylvania man was charged with DUI after being apprehended at the Philadelphia International Airport. The driver, Richard Mazik, broke through a fence near a construction site and drove up and down a runway in his SUV before being stopped. Once he was taken into custody he was charged with DUI. He is currently under arrest and being psychologically evaluated.
The fact that airport security is such a hot topic will probably make this a high profile case going forward. Any DUI case can be difficult to defend but the unusual circumstances in this particular case will make it very difficult for Mazik to get any sympathy.
Pennsylvania has instituted some very strict penalties for those convicted of DUI. The average DUI conviction for a first time offender in Pennsylvania can lead to heavy fines, license suspensions and 48 hours in jail if your blood alcohol content is .10% or higher.
