DUI Program Resources

BACK TO:  Drunk Driving (DUI) Program

When you’ve been convicted of a DUI, you may be sentenced to participate in a DUI program.  However, you may not know how to find a DUI program and how to make sure a DUI program fits the requirements of your state.

Check your state requirements for a DUI program.  The first thing you need to do when choosing a DUI program is check with the appropriate office in your state.  You need to make sure that any DUI program you use is going to fulfill the requirements of your sentence.  Check your state’s website to see if you can find a listing of DUI programs there.  Many states will have the DUI program information available 24 hours a day on the internet.

Get DUI program information from national information clearinghouses.  National programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Mothers Against Drunk Driving can also provide information for you about DUI programs.  They often offer their own DUI programs that will fulfill the requirements laid out for you by the judge.

Paying for a DUI program.  The cost of DUI programs runs the gamut.  Some DUI programs cost as little as $150 while some cost closer to $500.  Covering the cost of a DUI program is generally your responsibility.  However, there are some DUI programs that offer financial assistance.  The assistance for DUI programs usually has the same eligibility requirements of other government aide.  You’ll need to speak with each DUI program on an individual basis to determine if you’ll be eligible for sliding scale financial help.

Additional DUI program resources.  One of the best benefits of DUI programs is that they can help lead you to other resources you might need.  Your DUI program may help you to identify an alcohol or substance abuse issue you have.  From the staff of your DUI program you may be given other community resources that can assist you.

Both outpatient and inpatient treatment programs may be available through your work with a DUI program.  When you’re part of a DUI program, you can take full advantage of the situation.  While you may be mandated by the court to participate in a DUI program you can look at it as an opportunity to deal with any substance dependence you may be experiencing.

Completing a DUI program.  Once you’ve completed a DUI program, you need to make sure that the court receives that information.  You may be required to file paperwork with the local court system that verifies your participation in the DUI program.  Make sure you get all of the guidelines about reporting your DUI program completion.
