Alaska DWI

Alaska DWI

If you are arrested for an Alaska DWI, it means you were caught driving with a blood alcohol level of .08. An Alaska DWI arrest is a very costly event. Not only do you face the court fees, but everywhere you turn there are also fines and costs.

Alaska License Suspension

If you are arrested for an Alaska DWI, the officer that arrests you will suspend your license, giving you a “Notice and Order of Revocation,” which serves as your driver’s license for one week. After that time your license is revoked for ninety days. This time coincides with the mandatory ninety-day suspension you will face in court.

Between the time of your Alaska DWI arrest and your court date, you can request a temporary license by sending a written request to the Department of Administration for an administrative review of your revocation. They will give you a temporary license that is good until you go to court.

On your court date, you can request a limited license. This costs $100, and this license only allows you to drive to and from work. You must prove to the court that you do not pose a risk to the general public if you drive back and forth to work. In order to get your license back after the ninety-day period, you must pay another fee, this time $200. Without paying this fee, you will not have a license.

AK DWI Education Requirements

All Alaska DWI offenders attend education classes or treatment depending on the results of their alcohol assessment. This also costs, usually between $20 and $150. If treatment is needed, this will cost the offender even more. Both education and treatment requirements must be completed before the license will be reinstated.

Alaska DWI Fines

On top of all of these fees, the court will charge a fine for the Alaska DWI arrest itself. This fee cannot be less than $250, nor can it be more than $5,000. The average fee is around $1500. You must also be incarcerated in jail for at least three days. You will pay for this time, and if it is a three-day sentence the cost is $270. Longer sentences cost more. You will need to serve twenty-four hours of community service time. Finally, your costs will continue to soar as your insurance premiums increase due to your Alaska DWI offense. You can expect your insurance premium to be at least $2,000 a year for a minimum of 5 years after an Alaska DWI arrest.
