SR22 insurance is a minimum liability insurance policy that covers only the individual named by the policy. When one purchases SR22 insurance, his or her insurance company files an SR22 form with the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. This SR22 form serves as proof of future financial responsibility. As long as this form is on file, the State of Ohio knows that a driver is covered in the event of a future accident.
Non-Owner SR22 insurance is a type of SR22 insurance that is available to drivers who do not own or have regular access to a vehicle.
If you are caught without mandatory liability insurance or if you are caught drunk driving (OVI / DUI) in the State of Ohio, your driver's license will be suspended, and you will need to purchase SR22 insurance in order to get it reinstated. If you do not own a vehicle, you will need to purchase non-owner SR22 insurance.
Once you pay for your SR22 policy, your insurance company will issue the SR22 filing. If possible, ask your insurance company to file your SR22 electronically, so that it can be processed on the same day that it is received. Hard copy SR22s are usually processed within three to five business days.
Your non-owner SR22 insurance must be provided by an insurance company that is licensed to do business in Ohio. You can access those companies by entering your information by click the button below:
