The State of Wisconsin requires certain drivers to file an SR22 form (SR22 insurance) with the Department of Transportation. You will need to file an SR22 form if your driver's license has been revoked (e.g., subsequent OWI); your vehicle registration has been revoked; you are applying for an occupational license; your driver's license has been suspended for a damage judgment; your driver's license has been suspended for violating the safety responsibility law; or if you are under 18 and you do not have a sponsor.
(Please note that, unlike many other states, Wisconsin does not require first time OWI offenders to file an SR22 form.)
If you have an SR22 requirement, and you do not own or have regular access to a vehicle that you can drive, you can purchase non-owner SR22 insurance and file a non-owner SR22 form.
A Wisconsin SR22 requirement lasts for three years, so it is important to find a policy and a rate that you can live with. We have partnered with top insurance companies in order to offer you the best possible non-owner SR22 insurance options available in Wisconsin. To get a free quote, simply enter your zip code here:
If your driver's license has been revoked because of a subsequent OWI offense, then you will be restricted to ignition interlock driving for at least one year. In this case, you would need to have regular access to a vehicle in order to fulfill the ignition interlock requirement, so you would not be qualified for non-owner SR22 insurance. You would need to file an owner's SR22 form with the DOT.
