Massachusetts Non Owner SR22 Insurance Information

DUI laws and penalties, fines, license suspension, sr22 filing

Many states require certain "high risk" drivers, e.g., those convicted of OUI / DUI, to carry a special insurance known as SR22 insurance. This type of liability insurance requires an insurance company to file a certificate with the RMV that proves the insured is insured.

"Non-owner SR22 insurance" refers to the type of policy provided to a person who does not own a vehicle, but still needs the SR22 coverage.

Massachusetts does not require SR22 insurance, so if you live in Massachusetts, you do not need to worry about non-owner SR22 insurance. However, if you live in Massachusetts, but you get an OUI in another state, one that does require SR22 insurance, then you will likely have to file an SR22 in that state. Also, if you do get an OUI in Massachusetts, and you then move to another state, one that does require SR22 insurance, you will likely have to file an SR22 in the new state, even though your OUI happened in Massachusetts.
