Oregon DUI Class Requirement for DUI Offenders

In Oregon, if you’re a DUI offender participating in a diversion program, you need to complete a series of requirements to successfully fulfill your obligations under the program:

  1. Diagnostic Assessment: You’ll start with an alcohol or drug evaluation to determine if you have a substance use issue.
  2. Treatment: Depending on the assessment’s results, you may need to complete a treatment program. This typically involves around 12 weeks of classes, but the duration can vary based on individual needs.
  3. Victim Impact Panel: You must attend a session that focuses on the impacts of DUI on victims.
  4. Fees: You are required to pay various fees, including those for court, the evaluator, and the treatment provider. The total can vary, with some typical fees including around $490 for court, $150-$225 for assessment and monitoring, and $50 for the victim impact panel.
  5. Abstinence from Intoxicants: You must abstain from alcohol and non-prescribed drugs during the diversion period, which typically lasts one year.
  6. Ignition Interlock Device: An ignition interlock device must be installed in your vehicle throughout the diversion period, with potential exceptions based on specific criteria like medical conditions or employer-owned vehicles.

Remember, online DUI classes are not recognized in Oregon for residents who committed their offense within the state. Thus, all required classes must be attended in person unless pre-approved otherwise for specific circumstances, such as out-of-state offenses.

These requirements are consistent across Oregon, regardless of the county. Completing the diversion program successfully will lead to the dismissal of the DUI charge, without a conviction on your record, provided all program conditions are met (DUI Law Center) (Oregon.gov) (Oregon.gov).
