Missouri DWI Class Requirements for DWI Offenders

In Missouri, DUI/DWI offenders are typically required to complete a Substance Abuse Traffic Offender Program (SATOP). The specific program and its intensity can vary based on the individual’s assessment results and prior offenses.

  1. Offender Education Program (OEP – Level I): This is a 10-hour course aimed at first-time, low-risk offenders. It educates participants on the consequences of impaired driving and encourages responsible decision-making.
  2. Weekend Intervention Program (WIP – Level II): Designed for higher-risk or repeat offenders, this is a 20-hour program that takes place over a weekend. It involves intensive education and counseling to address substance abuse and its impact on driving.
  3. Clinical Intervention Program (CIP – Level III): A more comprehensive program for those identified as high-risk, involving 50 hours of counseling over a three to six-week period.
  4. Serious and Repeat Offender Program (SROP – Level IV): For individuals with multiple DUI offenses or high-risk profiles, this program includes at least 75 hours of treatment spanning no less than 90 days.

Each level has associated costs, which can vary. Initial assessments typically cost around $195, which includes various fees such as the screening and administrative costs.

For non-residents or those who received their DUI/DWI charge outside Missouri but need to fulfill Missouri’s requirements, they must complete a comparable program in their state and submit completion documentation to Missouri’s Department of Mental Health.

For more detailed information about these programs and their requirements, you can visit the Missouri Department of Mental Health’s SATOP page here and additional guidance from legal resources here.
